The Old Island is a tide island that is at the southern edge of the Bay of Mermaids. At high tide, the island is not visible to any human. But at low tide, the whole island is visible. Due to the islands placement, the bay to the north is much warmer than the surrounding sea during the winter.
History[]
In 1873, historians suggest that due to lower sea levels the island could have hosted to over 100 people. The island would have been visible to everyone.
Tidal effects on Mermaid Beach[]
When it is medium tide, the Mermaid Beach receives very high waves due to shallower water where the island is. Sometimes 2 metre waves can be produced.
